Baby Monitor Bead Maze
Date
November 2021
Project type
Augmented Object
For my augmented object project, I used a baby monitor that I had previously found at La Reserve des Arts. I found the different components of the unusual object very interesting and decided to give it a go.
After disassembling the object and observing and sketching its different components, I put together a whole new object. Based off an object that creates a link, a space between the parent and the child, I chose to create a new space for the child: a playful space to explore and grow.
I decided to go for a bead maze – a toy that develops the child’s dexterity, refines its sensory and motor skills as well as its hand-to-eye coordination. To proceed with my idea, I created little beads with the inside components of the baby monitor, attaching them together or giving them a pendent-like feel to hand them in a second place to the wires that would connect to the two part base to each other. The base in question would be fixated with the said wires that would intertwine and allude to an idea of roots that are nourishing and essential for the child to grow (this last part represented with the maze itself).
